Happy Thanksgiving everyone!! I love reasons to gather and eat with people you love, whether they be legitimate holidays or totally made up. We like making up holidays here and gathering friends for what we call “orphan holidays”. Though we are not actually orphans, we’re all transplants far from our families that don’t often get to go back home for minor league holiday (Fetivus for the rest of us!), and Thanksgiving fits the bill. Because of the absence of elder oversight, no parents or grandparents, we use the opportunity to make really random and unconventional foods. The weeks leading up to Thanksgiving have been crazy busy and strangely hectic for us so we’re being a bit lazy and digging through the archives to make our favorites from previous years. Here is a little collection of unconventional Thanksgiving side dishes and a dessert that you’re sure to enjoy! I actually just realized that all of these dishes are vegetarian and gluten-free Thanksgiving recipes so they’re pretty great to bring to places where people might have food sensitivities.
